I know what you’re thinking, but I don’t mean fruity in that way.ย I mean books that contain fruit in the title.ย With spring fast approaching and cherry, apple and pear blossoms appearing on the trees, I thought itโd be fun to round up ten books with a fruity theme.
1.ย The Lemon Grove by Helen Walsh โย Jenn and her husband, Greg, return to Mallorca every year. This year Emma, Jenn’s step-daughter, will be joining them and bringing along Nathan, her new seventeen year old boyfriend. Jenn becomes seduced by Nathan’s youth and the promise of passion.
2. Apple Tree Yard by Louise Doughty โย A psychological thriller telling the story of a respected woman, a scientist, on trial for murder.
3. The Peach Keeper by Sarah Addison Allen โย A beautiful house on the ridge symbolises Willa’s family’s ruin and legacy. She is desperate to escape from it. Paxton needs a distraction so decides to restore the house. Friendship, secrets and magic are involved.
4. Foreign Fruit by Jojo Moyes โย In the town of Merham in the 1950s, there live two girls. Lottie Swift is an evacuee who lives with the Holden family and adores living in the town. Celia, Mr. & Mrs. Holden’s daughter, meanwhile, feels restrained by it. Then the bohemians move into the grand Art Deco house โย and what happens next has long-lasting consequences.
5. Blackberry Wine by Joanne Harris โย Quite a few of Joanne’s novels could have been used here. Peaches for Monsieurย le Curรฉ and Five Quarters of the Orange are two other fruity examples. Joanne’s novels always sound so delicious, don’t they? In Blackberry Wine, the drink is the key to an old mystery.ย

6. The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck โย A novel written in 1939 about the suffering and hardship caused by The Great Depression.
7. The Taste of Apple Seeds by Katharina Hagenaย โย Iris discovers she has inherited her grandmother’s house and garden, along with her family’s darkest secrets.
8.ย The Irresistible Blueberry Bakeshop & Cafe by Mary Simses โย This is the story ofย Manhattan lawyer Ellen Branford who is going to Beacon, Maine to carry out her grandmother’s last wish. She has to give a letter to the boy she first loved.
9. Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit by Jeanette Winterson โย An award-winning novel about Jeanette, adopted and brought up as The Chosen One from God. Then she has feelings for another girl and leaves home at sixteen to follow her own path.
10. Pear Shaped by Stella Newman โ Sophie meets James. She feels he is too good to be true. And he is. An examination of relationships and how they can affect your mind โ and body.ย ย
How many of these have you read? What are your favourite books to read in the spring?
