A special treat for you today, book nerds. Linda Green is here to share an exclusive short story prequel to her latest novel, The Marriage Mender. Over to you, Linda.
This story tells how Alison and Chris met. I had it pretty much worked out before I started writing The Marriage Mender. But The Marriage Mender is not a novel about how they get together and live happily ever after. The next time you meet Alison and Chris, in the opening scene of The Marriage Mender, they are about to go in for their first relationship counselling session.
I wanted this novel to be the antidote to all the Hollywood schmaltz and happily ever after plot-lines out there. I wanted it to be about a real relationship. Because although we might all start off with the hope that this one is for keeps, the truth is that getting together doesn't guarantee a happy ending. Life throws stuff at us. Sometime pretty bad stuff that no one could have anticipated. And what fascinates me as a writer is how couples cope when the storyline doesn't go to plan.
The Marriage Mender starts at a point when we know the couple's relationship is in crisis. The story then goes back in time to find out how it got that way and follows them forward to discover if their relationship will survive or not.
So enjoy this story for now, but bear in mind that the getting together is sometimes the easy bit. It's the staying together which is the hard part.Click here for your copy of the exclusive prequel to The Marriage Mender
