Please tell us about you. Where are you from? What is your professional background and how did you become an author?
I began as a songwriter and musician — I wrote songs and played shows from when I was a little girl up until my late twenties. And then, one day I got an idea for a book and pulled out a notebook to start writing it down. Three months later, I had written my first book (which is now published as SPARKS FLY under my pen name Lucy Kevin). I first got the idea for the Sullivan series in 2009. I absolutely love what I do, and haven’t looked back since!
What types of books do you write?
Romance! I’ve always been such a big romance reader. When I was a teenager I would read until two in the morning with the lights under the covers. Romance has always been my genre. I still read a book a week when I can manage to squeeze them in between writing my own books.
Could you please tell us about your most recent book, its overall plot, and the main characters in it?
I recently released The Beach Wedding, the first book in my new Married in Malibu series. After releasing the final book in my New York Times bestselling Four Weddings and a Fiasco series, I realized my fans weren’t ready to stop reading romantic stories about weddings—and that I also wasn’t ready to stop writing about them. The Married in Malibu series is a spin-off of the Four Weddings series and the reviews have been incredible, which is lovely!
I am also super excited about the newest book in my multi-million selling series about The Sullivans! Now That I’ve Found You launched the New York branch of the family. After writing fifteen books about the Sullivans, I’m more in love with them than ever. Thankfully, my fans seem to feel the exact same way!
On top of that, my newest Maverick Billionaire, Fearless in Love, co-written with the
marvellous Jennifer Skully, came out this past week. Based on the incredible 5 star reader reviews that have been coming in, they’re as excited about my billionaires as I am!
Are you working on any other books(s)? If so, can you please tell us what we can expect to see from you in the future?
I’m busy writing the next installments of the Sullivans, Married in Malibu, the Morrisons and the Maverick Billionaires series. The next Sullivan, SINCE I FELL FOR YOU, just went on pre-order too. It will be available October 12!
Can you please tell us about your approach to writing? For example, do you follow structures and writing rules? Or do you write in a free flow way? Do you have any particular time of the day you like to write? Or any specific environment you prefer to sit down and write in?
I love writing early in the morning to start my day off on the right foot, but really I can write anywhere, anytime. I’m a big believer in revising my books until they’re the best they can possibly be, which means that I can sometimes spend as much time rewriting as I do getting the first draft down. It helps to know that there truly are no wasted words.
Do you have any favourite authors? If so, who are they and what do you like about their work?
There are so many wonderful authors out there, it’s hard to name just a few! Some of my all-time favorites include Barbara Freethy, Tina Folsom, Christie Ridgway, and Jami Alden. They write such sexy, memorable characters, and their books just keep me turning the pages!
What other things do you like to get up to when you’re not writing?
I love to spend time with my husband and kids. I also have the sweetest little dog named Gus, and he and I both love interacting with readers on Instagram these days. I also love traveling whenever I get the chance and meeting readers all over the world, and I will always have a very special place in my heart for music.
