The Love Boat by Kate Lace – Reviewed by Debs Carr
Poppy Sanders loves her job. As cook and cleaner on a luxurious holiday yacht, she spends her days looking after families and sailing around the Mediterranean. Her peace is shattered by the arrival of the larger-than-life Garvie family who were expecting something a little more lively when they booked their trip. The youngsters desperate for excitement misbehave and end up damaging a super-yacht docked nearby. Poppy goes over to apologise on their behalf and meets Charlie, a handsome, charming deckhand.
The only fly in the ointment is her grouchy skipper, Jake, who for reasons known only to himself, seems unable to join in the fun and it doesn’t help that he has taken an instant dislike to Charlie. Poppy has to face unexpected traumas and we follow her from the Greek Islands to her parents’ pub in Cornwall, where after some shocking encounters, she has to make decisions that could ruin everything she’s worked so hard to achieve.
I enjoyed this book very much, and especially liked the unusual boat setting. The characters work well with and against each other, and there are some surprising twists and turns, keeping me wanting to know more until I reached the satisfying ending.
Definitely a well-earned 8/10
