Good morning, writers! Sitting comfortably? Excellent. Grab yourself a brew and have a go at our beginning of the week writing prompt to get you back into the swing of things. Who knows? You might even find yourself with the beginning of a new novel or a sparkly short story to submit to your favourite magazine.
Every day for three months, the cute barista at the train station’s coffee stand has scribbled his phone number on Allie’s morning commute coffee cup. She’s madly attracted to him, but painfully shy, and can’t quite bring herself to speak to him outside of her usual ‘Tall, black, French Roast, please’ before scurrying off to the office. Knowing she’s too introverted to act on her feelings, Allie’s colleague types out a text message from our protagonist’s unattended phone and hits ‘send’ before slipping back to her own desk. When Allie returns, she reads:
Allie: You put sugar in my coffee this morning. Shame on you.Unsaved number: Well, if it isn’t Tall Black French Roast. Tomorrow’s Saturday. Let me make it up to you by buying you a non-sugared coffee. I’ll throw in a muffin and some conversation, too. 10am, King's Cross Station under the clock?
Over to you …
