As sunny and lovely as the weekend was, deep down, if you're anything like us, you’re secretly excited about the prospect of diving back into your work in progress. All you need is a little motivational nudge to get you back into the writing flow, right? Right. Look no further, writers. We’ve created a beginning of the week writing prompt just for you.
When Isabel’s husband, Ian, drops the bombshell that he is leaving her for Mrs. Crowley – his widowed, toad-keeping, stamp-collecting secretary – she promises herself she will do something spectacular to celebrate their divorce. A year later – just a few days before her 38th birthday – decree absolute in hand, Isabel picks up the phone and books a flight to Italy. For two delicious weeks, Isabel daydreams, she will tour the Italian countryside in her little rental car; she’ll drink wine, eat pasta, converse with Italian men and start her life anew. Free as a bird.
While on the trip, however, Isabel decides to write a short postcard to Ian every day – her final goodbye to the man who left her for a stamp-collector with a pet toad. Closure. What do the postcards say?
