Can reading improve your chances in love? Apparently. According to new research, being a book lover is now one of the most desirable qualities among British men and women.
The study was conducted by Elite Singles, the online dating site for long-term relationships, and found that over two thirds of people would prefer to date a book worm over someone who isn’t too fussed on reading.
But what you choose to read has influence, too.
For men, the most attractive genre a woman can read is erotica. Women, meanwhile, prefer men who read mysteries. There is some common ground between the sexes, too, with thrillers coming in as the second genre both men and women would like to find in their potential partner’s library.
According to EliteSingles psychologist Salama Marine, there are a variety of reasons why singles love those who love books but, chiefly, it’s because “people look for those who have interesting hobbies – and reading is one of them. Why? Because a great book leads to great discussions.” She adds, “also, your taste in books can highlight aspects of your personality: are you curious, romantic, dreamy? By sharing your tastes you can show and share your inner world.”
Of course, the book love could be down to one simple thing: like is attracted to like. And, as it turns out, what the British like is books. In fact, Britain is a nation of book worms. As the survey revealed, a whopping 93% of Brits like to read for pleasure and, what’s more, just 2% of Brits surveyed consider readers (and reading) to be boring.Shame on you, 2%. When you’re ready to talk, we’ll be right here, reading and being all sexy.
