Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman’s production companies (Pacific Standard and Blossom Films) have teamed up to option the screen rights to Little Lies – published as Big Little Lies in the USA – by Liane Moriarty.
The novel, released July 29, portrays elementary school drama with petty jealousies and rumours all coming to the surface at Pirriwee Public School. But can a playground incident and resulting rift between three mothers of kindergartners, who apparently have perfect lives, actually unravel to the point of murder?
The Australian author’s latest page-turner comes on the heels of her first bestseller, The Husband’s Secret, one of our favourite books of 2013.
We’re looking forward to seeing how the roles are divided by Witherspoon and Kidman, both Oscar-winning actresses, who are believed to have plans to star in the adaptation themselves.
