There’s nothing like the feeling that accompanies a new book announcement from one of your favourite authors, is there? This week, we were pretty excited to discover Miranda Dickinson’s sixth book now has its title – the very lovely sounding I’ll Take New York.
While Miranda couldn’t give a definite publication date for the book, she did tell Novelicious: “We're looking at late autumn this year. The book is actually all written and edited because I wanted it done before my baby arrives (any day now!).”
She continued: “I'll Take New York is what I'm calling an 'almost sequel' to my first novel, Fairytale of New York. While it follows the story of two new characters – Bea James, a Brooklyn bookstore owner and Jake Steinmann, a psychologist – their stories are inextricably linked with Rosie, Ed, Marnie, Celia and Stewart from Fairytale of New York.”
New characters (a bookstore owner no less) and a sparkly New York setting? Roll on autumn, we say. Here’s the blurb:The path of true love never did run smooth…
When Brooklyn bookstore owner Bea James is let down once too often by unreliable boyfriend Otis, she swears off relationships for good. Determined to focus on her successful business and otherwise happy life in New York instead, she believes she has made the right decision.
Meanwhile, on the other side of Manhattan, Dr. Jake Steinmann is nursing a broken heart after his beautiful wife Jessica files for divorce. Relocating his life back to New York from San Francisco, he throws himself into setting up his psychotherapy practice and supporting older brother Ed (who is preparing to wed the love of his life, Rosie).
Unexpectedly thrown together at Rosie and Ed’s engagement party where they are the only two singles in the room, Bea and Jake bond over their love of New York and dislike of relationships – a conversation that ends with a pact to never get involved with anyone ever again.
But as their friendship grows – through sharing the parts of the Big Apple they love the most – Bea and Jake find their decision severely tested when both their lives take unexpected turns.
A tale of love, misunderstandings and second chances in the city that never sleeps …
