1) The most important thing is to always enjoy what you’re writing. If you don’t enjoy writing it, chances are your readers won’t enjoy reading it, so if you find yourself getting stuck on a scene, move on to another one or lose it completely.
2) Make sure you like your writing environment. I can’t focus properly unless I’m sitting at a clean and tidy table and, in my case, staring out at the garden.
3) Motivate yourself in whatever way you can. It doesn’t always work, but I try to set myself a weekly word count, especially if I’m drawing close to my deadline.
4) You can work, even when you’re not writing. Think about your story as much as you can – that way when you sit down to write, you’ll already know where it’s going.
5) Do your research. You can do this whenever you can find a spare few minutes so try not to let it eat in to your allocated writing time if you’re super busy.
