Rowman & Littlefield is an independent publishing company headquartered in Maryland, specializing in books for academics, professionals, and general readers. Since their establishment in 1949, they have published many books on aging and elderhood, including Aging Wisely: Strategies for Baby Boomers and Seniors, Aging With Care: Your Guide to Hiring and Managing Caregivers at Home, Elderescence: The Gift of Longevity, and more.

Founded in 1854, Beacon Press is a Boston-based independent publisher that specializes in non-fiction books. They also publish books on aging and are currently open for submissions.

Established by Frank Columbus in 1985, Nova Science Publishers is a scientific, technical, and medical publisher based in New York. They publish more than 1000 titles each year in the areas of science and technology, social sciences, and medicine and health—including education, life sciences, diet and nutrition, geriatrics, Alzheimer’s and dementia, behavioral science, and more.

4. Spinsters Ink
Founded by Judith McDaniel and Maureen Brady in 1978, Spinsters Ink is a feminist publisher located in Tallahassee. They have published the works of many well-known women writers, such as Audre Lorde, Val McDermid, Paula Gunn Allen, and Judy Grahn. They are also the publisher behind the award-winning bestseller Look Me in the Eye: Old Women, Aging, and Ageism. As a publisher, they specialize in fiction and non-fiction dealing with women’s hopes, dreams, and fears.

The University of Chicago Press is one of the oldest presses in the United States. It is operated by the University of Chicago and has published more than 11,000 books since its inception—5,000 of which are still currently in print. They publish books and journals on a wide array of topics, including the humanities, elderhood, education, philosophy, gender and sexuality, the human body, and more.

They are currently accepting submissions in all areas except poetry and fiction.

Between the Lines is a Canadian publishing company that focuses on contemporary issues not typically talked about in the mainstream media. Second Story Press currently accepts unsolicited submissions from Canadian authors. Do note that they do not publish romance novels, poetry, or short stories. Pan MacMillan Australia is the Australian imprint of MacMillan Publishers, one of the world’s largest publishing companies. Pan MacMillan accepts submissions through their Manuscript Monday initiative.
