Five very wise writing tips from the brilliant Rainbow Rowell this afternoon. Want to know more about Rainbowโs writing process, career or books? She will be answering your questions live for an entire hour on Twitter this afternoon from 3pm โ just use the #NoveliciousBookClub tag. See you there!
1. Donโt worry even a little bit whether your book is on trend. All the trends will be trending differently by the time you get published, so itโs pointless to overthink it while youโre writing.
2. Finish your book before you try to make it perfect. You can paralyze yourself if you worry about getting everything just right. Youโll never finish.
3. Read outside your genre. Find inspiration in someone whoโs doing something totally different from you. (This might not work for everyone, but itโs essential for me.)
4. Donโt cut jokes that make you laugh.
5. Remember that youโre not writing for everyone. Youโre writing for the reader who connects with your style and perspective. Lots of people wonโt want or like your book; that doesnโt mean you shouldnโt write it.
