The latest Kindle eBook Reader that has been introduced by Amazon is the Kindle Paperwhite. Outwardly, you will see nothing spectacular in its appearance, but the world has accepted the Paperwhite. Let us see why in this review of Amazon Kindle Paperwhite, the most recent device from Amazon.
At What Price Can You Get It?
This eBook reader costs about 11,000/-, if it has a Wi-Fi version only. But, if it possesses facilities like Wi-Fi plus 3G version, the costs rise to about 14,000/- If we look at what additions Amazon has released in US, we can find the ad free varieties and the ad supported varieties. Supposedly, the ad supported ones may cost between $120 (for the Wi-Fi models) to almost $180 (Wi-Fi 3G models). The ad free ones will cost $139 (for the Wi-Fi models) to almost $199 (Wi-Fi 3G models).
What’s Different about the Kindle Paperwhite?
Usually, a change is made on the screen of any device. However, for a change, on the Kindle Paperwhite, a difference has been made on the back. Its back plate is studded with AMAZON. Amazon has conducted a lot by redesigning of the technology used in the front lighting system. When you put the Kindle Paperwhite on, you will notice that it has a greyish and bluish colour, quite contrary to other ordinary tablets on the market. This definitely shuts down the glare on your eyes.
Other Attributes- Hardware
It has got an admirable battery life that extends to almost eight weeks. Isn’t that great? Apart from that, they have taken care to fit a faster processor compared to the older model and a reasonably sensitive touch screen. A new inclusion is the free scale chip which is set at about 1 GHz (increased from the previous 800 MHz) and that allows you to turn the page smoothly and makes navigation hassle free.
Other Attributes- Software
1. Footnotes: This is the real hero of this device. Amazon has infused reader friendly facilities like the in line footnotes. So, when you tap on the footnote now, it will pop up as a dialog box on the same screen. Previously, this same option would take the reader to another page. This is a great facility for big books.
2. Word Search: Doubtful about a particular word? No worries. Just tap the word, and you can enter a whole world of alternatives like Dictionary, Wikipedia and the X-ray. This is named as the Vocabulary Builder. The magic about this builder is that it provides the meaning of the word with respect to the usage in that particular book and also the normal definition of the word.
Isn’t it good to keep revising on your vocabulary? This is what Amazon has focussed on, so that the reader experiences an educative and interesting reading session.
3. Bookmarking: When you read a physical book, you can turn your pages. But in an eBook reader, since this cannot be experienced to the fullest, Amazon has included a bookmarking facility. This helps you to come back to the page in a fast manner.
4. Kid friendly: This facility is genuinely a relief for parents as the reader will only display books suitable in the white list for kids (when you choose that option). So, it is a reliable opportunity for parents to create good reading habits for their young ones.
Wrappers
The Kindle Paperwhite is a user friendly device meant for all ages. It’s not too complicated or fancy. Its style is certainly not something that will be envied, but it is a very encouraging device for first time eBook users. Very easy options make readers feel at ease and that will surely encourage many people to start using this revolutionary style of reading books.
