Connie Gordon is a very popular actress who, after the toils and commotion of being in the spotlight, feels the need to escape to somewhere with a bit of normality… so she jumps on a plane and flies across the world to Lochnabrae, Scotland, where her mother was born. What Connie doesn’t plan on is meeting swooning playwright, Alistair or having the world’s biggest fan base on her door step in the form of excitable fan, Maggie! So much for the quiet life… I warmed to Connie immediately and I longed for her to find the stability that she was craving throughout the story, even just some inner peace! I enjoyed watching her grow as a character and I often found myself laughing and smiling as I was reading. Every romance must have a dashing leading man and in this case we have Alistair, a handsome playwright with a secret he’d rather the residents of Lochnabrae didn’t find out about. And with a troubled past regarding relationships with actresses you can guess where things are going once him and Connie meet, but it doesn’t make the story any less enjoyable. Maggie, Connie’s super fan, is slightly cringe-worthy but she did make me laugh out loud and I’d much rather be annoyed with a character than feel nothing about them at all. Here’s where I make a confession….I’m a bit of a sucker for a book set in Scotland…I have no idea why but the country always seems romantic to me; surrounded by lush landscapes, mountains and gorgeous lakes. I was thrilled with Victoria’s descriptions of Lochnabrae as a small village community surrounded by a beautiful landscape, it made me feel warm and fuzzy and definitely like somewhere I would like to live. Overall, I enjoyed everything about this book and although it was a little bit more reserved than what I usually read I was very entertained. Victoria is a brilliant story-teller, the twists and turns in the book kept it intriguing and I loved that Connie was such a friendly character. If, like Connie, you’re looking for a way to escape this summer, then ‘The Runaway Actress’ is the one for you… 7/10 MORE ABOUT THE RUNAWAY ACTRESS
