REVIEWED BY KIRA SLAUGHTER
All Lulu wants is a loving man and father figure for her young son. In a perfect world, this would be her gorgeous boss, Ben Arlington. He is her dream man. He’s also a highly sought after gaming industry millionaire, and engaged to another woman.
But not for much longer if Ben’s cold-hearted mother has anything to do with it.
Sofia Arlington has a secret to protect, a secret so potentially damaging she’ll do anything to keep it hidden.
Now a figure from Sofia’s dark past could change everything. Bessie Edwards is determined to get back what’s rightfully hers, and what she’s about to reveal will turn all their glittering lives upside down.
This is the first book I’ve read by Sasha Blake (she has another book, The Betraya) and after really enjoying this book I will have to invest in her first one!
The story is based around the Arlington family, who are very well known in the gaming industry in Las Vegas. Sofia and Frank are head of the family and the book begins with them opening a new luxurious hotel in Vegas. During the unveiling of the new hotel, Sofia sees a figure from her past that she’d much rather forget. The book is not in chapters but is written from each person’s perspective, which I thought was very interesting and made the book easier to follow.
Brother and Sister Ben and Ariel work for the family business and Ben is being put up for a big promotion, much to his sister’s annoyance. She constantly feels passed over in favour of her brother, and this is a contributing factor to something that happens early on in the book. Ben, however, is not happy about the promotion as he has ideas of his own regarding his future.
Ben is one of the main characters of the book and a good portion of the story revolves around him. You’d think being part of the richest and most powerful families in America would make him very arrogant and self assures, yet he loves nothing more than spending time with his assistant Lulu and her one year old son. As you can guess, Lulu has a soft spot for her boss and you can tell that they have a really good friendship. However, her heart is broken when Ben gets engaged to someone else, and throughout the book I felt really sorry for Lulu, yet knew that she was a bit of a fighter and had some spirit in her.
The story surrounding Sofia and the figure from her past had me intrigued and I couldn’t help but read on to find out what would happen and what the big secret was. I won’t divulge as I don’t want to ruin the book for you, but let me just say you will not be disappointed when you find out!
An addictive, action packed story with brilliant characters and an explosive ending!
I’m giving this a 9/10!
