Last night Hollywood celebrated its biggest night of the year. Daniel Day-Lewis, Argo, Anne Hathaway and Adele have all had their night of glory. Is it just me though, who looks at the audience as the camera sweeps round and thinks, well, which one is like Elaine Conti, Angel Hudson and Montana Gray from Hollywood Wives? Apparently Jackie Collins's characters are based on real people in Hollywood and the author herself has been quoted as saying, "If anything, my characters are toned down — the truth is much more bizarre."
So, with pictures of beautiful actresses to look at online, (and of course, George Clooney with a beard) I thought today would be a great excuse to dig out all those Hollywood novels.
1. Hollywood Wives by Jackie Collins - Jackie Collins could probably have filled the entire list but I limited her to two. Her characters are raunchy, demanding, spoiled, ruthless…the list could go on. Hollywood Wives is the Hollywood blockbuster, exposing Tinsel Town for the bitchy, gossipy town it is. The story has three wives. Elaine Conti, wife of a fading star, Angel Hudson, wife of a male stud, and Montana Gray, wife of a director trying to make it herself into the male world of directing.
2. Hollywood Wives – the New Generation by Jackie Collins – Glamour, sex, ambition. This book has it all and then some. A new generation of Hollywood wives are making waves in Tinsel Town.
3. Hollywood Sinners by Victoria Fox – Power, revenge, lust, greed, and betrayal. Four celebrity couples edging towards the showdown of their lives.
4. I Heart Hollywood by Lindsey Kelk – Angela has already got an amazing life. She's an English girl living in New York with a dream magazine job and a sexy boyfriend. Then she gets sent to Hollywood to interview fellow Brit, James. And they're photographed in an uncompromising position…
5. The Runaway Actress by Victoria Connelly – this book is about an actress escaping her Hollywood life and fleeing to Scotland. Being beautiful, rich and famous brings its own stresses to life and Connie has had enough. She is looking for complete relaxation in Scotland, but the transition is not the easiest.
6. Beautiful People by Wendy Holden – A number of lives are woven together by Holden. Darcy, a struggling English rose actress and Belle a Hollywood film star with a career about to hit the skids. Then we have Emma, a nanny and Sam, a talent spotter for a model agency. Not to mention Mitch the agent, Christian the playboy actor and Orlando the shy, ugly boy turned beauty.
7. The Movie by Louise Bagshawe – Eleanor is one of the most powerful women in Hollywood. She wants Roxanna, a model, to star in her movie which will be written by Megan, a struggling waitress who has written an amazing script.
8. Angels by Marian Keyes – I couldn't write a post about Hollywood and not include Angels. Maggie Walsh, the goody goody of the Walsh sisters, has had a blameless life. The one with a proper job, to have invested her money, and be married to a (safe) man. Then she does a runner to Hollywood.
9. Platinum by Jo Rees – We have a maid, a hooker and a lady. Three women united in their hatred for one man. A man who stops at nothing to get what he wants. But this time he's crossed the wrong women.
10. Fame by Tilly Bagshawe – Sabrina, a movie star, disgraces herself, and everyone knows about it thanks to Youtube. Now she is struggling to find work. Then we have newcomer Viorel and director Dorian. These three travel to Derbyshire where they are filming the remake of Wuthering Heights.
