By Carlie Lee
As part of our London Book Fair series, Carlie Lee asked agents Andrew Lownie and David Haviland of Andrew Lownie Literary Agency some quick questions…
Hoping to find:
An extraordinary memoir from an ‘ordinary’ person.
Really would rather not be faced with:
A new translation of Y Gooddin, Britain's oldest epic poem or
a picture book reading series, entitled Dandan The Drilling Man And His Drilling
Caravan – a unique storyline that acquaints
children and their parents with the Natural Gas / Oil drilling industry – both of
which I received recently.
Hot Tip:
Knowledge is power so research the publishing industry and the
market for your proposed book.
David Haviland is…
Hoping to find:
A powerful, gritty new voice in crime fiction.
Really would rather not be faced with:
"As the third sun rose over the pink skyline of Tremedor,
the Barissillians gathered for their morning assembly…" Or similar.
Hot Tip:
If your gripping, dramatic scenes don't come until chapter three,
most agents will never see them.
