Good news, book nerds! After a short hiatus, The Novelicious Book Club is back!
For us, there’s nothing better than having a group of friends reading the same book at the same time. You can lament over sudden plot twists and subsequent 4am reading sessions on school nights, swoon and whoop together when the hero finally kisses the heroine and have lively, thoughtful discussions once you’ve turned the last page.
Yep, our fun and friendly little digital reading community is open for business again and we’re pretty excited about what's in store.
This month, we’re delighted to be reading Rainbow Rowell’s Landline (released tomorrow). Not only are we excited to get our book loving little mits on a new Rowell novel, but we’ve arranged a live and very exclusive Twitter Q&A with the author herself, which will allow you (and us) to quiz her on all things Landline, Eleanor & Park and a lot more besides.
This will take place on Tuesday 15 June at 3pm so be sure to keep an hour free!
Hold up, how does this digital book club malarkey work, you ask?
Here’s a schedule for you:
Thursday 3 July – Buy Landline by Rainbow Rowell from Amazon or any good book shop. Acquire biscuits and start reading the novel immediately.
Tuesday 15 July – Join us on Twitter @Novelicious for a special, live Q&A session with Rainbow Rowell herself. You can ask questions on the day using the #NoveliciousBookClub hashtag or email them to kerry@writingtipsoasis.com and we’ll ask them on your behalf. A full transcript of the chat will be published on Novelicious the following day if you can’t make the live Q&A.
Wednesday 6 August – Team Novelicious will publish their mini reviews of the book at midday (you can email yours to kerry@writingtipsoasis.com to be included on the site if you like, too). In the evening at 8pm, put the kids to bed, pour yourself a glass of wine and join us for some lively discussion and fun and games on Twitter and Facebook under the #NoveliciousBookClub hashtag. There will be virtual nibbles, of course, and one participating chat member will win a signed, personalised copy of Landline from Rainbow Rowell herself.
You guys can also share your thoughts (no spoilers!) on the book here in the comments, on social media or on your own blog with the #NoveliciousBookClub hashtag throughout the month as you read. Whether it’s by discussing the cover in a video, instagramming pictures of yourselves reading the book in a onesie, tweeting character analyses or creating pretty images featuring favourite quotes, the idea is to get creative, have fun and geek out with like minded readers. Here's what Landline by Rainbow Rowell is all about:
Georgie McCool knows her marriage is in trouble. That it's been in trouble for a long time. She still loves her husband, Neal, and he still loves her – but that almost seems besides the point now.
Two days before they're supposed to visit Neal's family in Omaha for Christmas, Georgie tells him that she can't go. She's a TV writer, and something's come up on her show; she has to stay in Los Angeles. She knows that Neal will be upset with her – he is always a little upset with her – but she doesn't expect to him to pack up the kids and go home without her. When her husband and the kids leave for the airport, Georgie wonders if she's finally done it. If she's ruined everything.
That night, Georgie discovers a way to communicate with Neal in the past. It's not time travel, not exactly, but she feels like she's been given an opportunity to fix her marriage before it starts … Is that what she's supposed to do? Or would Georgie and Neal be better off if their marriage never happened?
Will you be joining in this month? What do you think of the book pick? Let us know in the comments and don't forget to leave your Twitter handle or blog address so we can keep up with you throughout the month.
