Research released this week has revealed that those who read for just 30 minutes per week are 20% more likely to be satisfied with their lives, yet 42% of the UK’s 16 million lapsed readers struggle to find time to pick up a book. The study, commissioned by GALAXY chocolate on behalf of Quick Reads, found lots of compelling reasons to rectify this:
-
43% of readers said reading helped them get a better night’s sleep
-
19% of readers said reading stopped them feeling lonely
-
Regular readers reported 57% greater cultural awareness and 21% more general knowledge
-
Readers reported higher levels of creativity (48%) than non-readers (38%)
-
Readers were found to be 27% better able to make time for their friends, perhaps as they were 10% more capable of planning and prioritising
In short, reading is awesome – for every part of your life.
Fortunately, with the release of this new research, six new books have been added to the growing Galaxy Quick Reads series, each aimed at helping adults across the UK rediscover the pleasure of reading. Bite-sized books written by bestselling authors, they cost just £1, and can be found in bookshops, supermarkets and online, or can be borrowed from libraries across the country.
This week, we have a whole set of the six new titles to giveaway (with some GALAXY chocolates thrown in for good measure). Whether you keep them yourself, or give them to someone who is struggling to find time to read, we’re confident this little bundle will be devoured in no time at all.
