Have you looked at a writer you admire, who constantly churns out successful books and novels, and wondered just how does he or she do it?
Perhaps you aspire to be such a writer and are bewildered as to what you need to do, to be so. If so, read the following 5 ways to supercharge the way you write.
1. Change the way you communicate to yourself
A key factor that differentiates successful writers from those who are unsuccessful is internal communication. Tell yourself that ‘I can write well’ or ‘I’m a successful writer’ and you open your mind to the possibilities of being the writer you’ve always dreamed of.
On the flipside though, say to yourself ‘I’m a writer destined to doom’ then you send a command to your nervous system to act accordingly.
2. Keep the image of you being a successful writer in your mind
Successful writers keep seeing themselves being at the top of their game firstly on the screen of your mind. What you see on the outside is simply a manifestation of the self-image a writer has of himself/herself.
Follow a similar approach by making it daily ritual to imagine you writing in a way where you’ve already tasted success, whatever this may uniquely be to you, such as completing your novel, picturing the thumbnail of your eBook in number 1 place in its category on Amazon, or having a clan of 10,000 devoted fans looking forward to your next release.
Make your visualisations really vivid, so that you begin to feel what it is like to be successful and motivated to do the next step below.
3. Take action
The best writers in the world always take action and the main act for them is writing of course. Every spare minute they have, they are writing, and learning to improve their craft. They read about the art of writing, they read novels and books by other authors, so that they learn about different ideas they can apply in their own work.
Make a commitment to yourself to take action today by writing every day. Have faith that through practice you will get better and better.
4. Do not fear failure
The most common fear that a writer has is that of failing. Successful writers have learnt to deal and overcome this fear. They do this by not looking at failure in the same way that other writers may do. Writers at the top of the game know that when they act, they can never fail. They have always made progress just by acting and having achieved a result. Now, the result may not have been what the writer wanted. However, the writer understands that he or she can learn from the result and try again. And with each attempt, the writer knows that he or she is closer to the end goal, whatever that be.
Remember, in your writing career you can never fail. With every go there is a positive lesson to be learnt. Use it for the next time!
5. Have passion
Successful writers have a deep rooted passion for their work. Just the thought of writing is enough to get them out of bed in the morning, and then to start writing whether it is in a notepad, or typing away on their laptops. They get true inner joy from doing what they enjoy the most.
As a writer you most likely already have a strong desire to write. In this case, mix this passion with the 4 tips above, and supercharge your writing to the next level!
