We recently carried out an interview with New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Eve Langlais of Canada. Below are Eve’s answers to our questions. We learnt about Eve’s writing background, about her latest story entitled Hell’s Geek, and found out about her writing schedule as a fulltime author. Read on to find what Eve had to say, who also shared writing advice for new authors out there.
Hello Eve, and welcome to e-Books India! Thanks so much for joining us for this interview. Please tell us about you. Where are you from, what is your professional experience? What was your journey to becoming an author like?
Hi, my name is Eve Langlais and I am a Canadian writer currently residing in our nation’s capital, Ottawa. I’ve been writing since 2009, and published since 2010. Initially, I began my career writing for four small e-presses, but have since then moved on to self-publishing, as well as signing a 3 novella deal with St. Martin’s Press. Just this past summer, I saw four indie titles in A Lion’s Pride series hit the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists, which was really exciting. I am a full time writer at this point in my career, working anywhere from 60 plus hours, 7 days a week, but I love it.
What types of books do you write?
I am a romance writer, who tends to flip between science fiction romance and paranormal. I love to let my imagination go wild and have a blast creating new worlds and rules for my creations. Readers often comment (and giggle) because of my heavy use of humour and sarcasm in my stories. I love a little laughter, or in some cases a lot lol, with my romance.

Your latest book is entitled Hell’s Geek, which is the sixth instalment in your Welcome to Hell series. Can you please tell us about this story?
Hell’s Geek is a very humorous, extremely irreverent story based in Hell where Lucifer is matchmaking his minions. It is the 6th book in my ongoing Welcome to Hell series. If you like over the top heroes and heroines, lusty adventures and ribald humor, then you should check it out.
Are you working on any other books(s)? If so, can you please tell us what we can expect to see from you in the future?
I’m always writing, lol. Right now, I’m in the midst of a series titled Bitten Point. It’s a spinoff of my bestselling Kodiak Point series. The stories will begin releasing in December starting with Croc’s Return. Then after that, I’m thinking of dipping into the sci-fi realm for a few books because I’ve got an idea nagging at me.
Can you please tell us about your approach to writing? For example, do you follow structures and writing rules? Or do you write in a free flow way? Do you have any particular time of the day you like to write?
When it comes to writing, I am a pantster. I don’t outline and tend to let the characters tell me where the story is going. It’s a fun way of writing because they take me in directions I never expected. But while my writing is free-flow, my work hours are not. I am very structured when it comes to sitting down and getting words written. I write Monday to Friday starting from just after 8am until at least 11 am or noon. If I’ve not hit my word count goal of the day, then I write again after lunch. My weekly goals are usually to get 15-25K words written. I’m very regimented in that respect lol.
From your experiences of being a published author, could you please share 2-3 top tips to help beginner authors who are new to the business?
The first tip would be to finish the book. Don’t get bogged down with second guessing your storyline. The next tip, and really the most important one, is to get it properly edited. For beginners, a content editor is strongly recommended as they will show you the weak spots in your story. As you gain experience, you’ll learn to spot those yourself. And for a third tip, be true to your muse. It’s too easy to want to change things as beta readers opine on your work, but in the end, listen to your inner voice and let your vision shine through.
How can people find out more about you?
