Ali's fabulous novel – From Notting Hill With Love…Actually is out now!
·1 Write something you’d like to read yourself. Don’t try to predict trends or write the ‘latest big thing’. Writing something you enjoy will not only make the whole process much more enjoyable, but your enthusiasm will show through in your writing.
· 2 Finish your manuscript before trying to send it off to publishers or agents. By the time you get to the end of your story you’ll know a lot more about your characters and their motivations and will probably want to change the beginning!
·3 The internet is your friend. Use sites like Facebook and Twitter to not only publicise your writing but to make useful contacts and more importantly understanding friends doing the same thing as you who can support you through good times and bad!
· 4 Don’t take no for an answer. If every published writer had given up after a little bit of rejection our bookshops and libraries would be very empty places right now!
· 5 Forget writer’s cramp and writer’s block – writer’s bottom is what you need to be aware of! If you want to avoid this well known, but rarely spoken of side affect of becoming a serious writer, then make sure you schedule in regular exercise breaks to your daily routine!
