1. Try and write a consistent word count every day, even if it’s just 1000 words, you’ll be surprised how quickly a script forms.
2. Find your own voice and write from the heart.
3. Don’t write what you think others want to read. Write about something you feel passionate about because you will have to live with that subject and those characters for some time.
4. When you are stuck for inspiration do not stew in front of a blank sheet of paper or a computer screen tearing your hair out. Go out, clear your head, go to a café, eat cake, people watch – it’s amazing how an idea can suddenly come, but if it doesn’t, you’ve taken some exercise & enjoyed a slice of cake…
5. Before I wrote Monday to Friday Man I was constantly told how tough the market was but I didn’t let anyone’s doubts put me off. Someone has to get their script accepted, books are still being published, so why can’t it happen to you? Don’t give up or be put off by anyone’s doubts. Believe in yourself.
