1. Procrastination is the devil. ASOS will not help you finish a chapter. Try and be strict with the time you devote to writing, allowing a little lee way for creative flow.
2. Be true to yourself. Find your own style and voice and write in it. Don’t try to emulate someone else’s because it worked for them. I don’t think you can reach your own creative potential if you’re copying someone else.
3. Go for a walk and clear the cobwebs if you are really suffering from writer’s block. Just don’t leave it too long or your own doubts will start to build a wall between you and your work. Stay with it.
4. Feed your imagination. Whether this is watching movies, reading, laughing with friends, surfing the net, looking at art. I love listening to peoples’ stories, not using them in my books but taking cognisance of what makes people tick; relationships, friendships, love, loss, hope.
5. Don’t be too hard on yourself when you read back on something and it isn’t perfect. Move on, you’ll write something better which will give you the confidence to go back and look at what you have written before with renewed energy.
