Today, we’re very excited to introduce Anuj Tiwari, a bestselling novelist, speaker, poet, and IT professional. We carried out an exclusive interview with the man himself to find out about his work as a writer. Read on to learn more.
Welcome to e-Books India, Anuj! We’re thrilled to have you join us for this interview! Can you start off by telling us about your background? Where are you from? How did you become an author?
When I was a kid I used to say to my mom I want to do something different in my life and every time my mom slapped my face, and I was back to my studies. I was 7 at that time.
I have a most dramatic and beautiful family in Bareilly though I have settled in Mumbai after college. I am happy that you don’t see me with my family. My mom and Dimpy aunty (You can find her in my books) are two creatures who have made me something and it took 9 years for them to realize that I wanted to do something different.
You know, life is magical, you never know what happens tomorrow. One moment you are happy, another moment you become sad and sometimes you have to face the worst situations when people are not around. I was in that situation when I just wanted one person or I would say, just one shoulder to release my emotions but I couldn’t find that, and I had to end up picking up a pen and started writing.
What types of books do you write?
My all three books are based on true stories. There are so many realities to share with my readers and people around. So, meet me at the coffee shop, if you have a story. 🙂
Your next book entitled It’s Not Right…But It’s Okay is due to be released soon. Can you please tell us a bit about this story and when it is going to hit stores?
It’s not Right to ask before the release…but It’s Okay, I would only say in one line – if we have a past that we aren’t particularly proud of, it doesn’t mean we can’t have a promising future.
It’s Not Right…but It’s Okay is quite different from my previous two books. It is based on a true story about my friends, family and you can find me too in the book, but this time it’s a little different. 🙂
Are you working on any other books(s)? If so, can you please tell us what we can expect to see from you in the future?
Not yet, but yes I have few plots in mind and if any of them do not allow me to sleep, I’ll go ahead with that and share with you soon. Hopefully in late 2016. 🙂
Can you please tell us about your approach to writing? For example, do you follow structures and writing rules? Or do you write in a free flow way? Do you have any particular time of the day you like to write? Or any specific environment you prefer to sit down and write?
In my opinion, there is no such pattern to follow while writing. As per my understanding writing is telling others’ stories in your words and for that, the prerequisite is to keep yourself free from external obligations. So, I get up early morning at 4 o’clock to write. Well, it’s not just writing; anything you do early morning if you are ready to leave your bed will give you better results.
What other things do you like to get up to when you’re not writing?
I like to meet people who are struggling for survival but keep smiling. They inspire me. At other times, I play guitar and sing too. 🙂 Don’t ask me to sing a song!
From your experiences as a published author, could you please share 2-3 important lessons you’ve learnt to help beginner authors who are new to writing and publishing?
Have patience, never go for the money and don’t be like others. Originality matters a lot these days in writing. These three things are very important. Else it’s difficult to survive. There are hundreds of books coming into the market but only 4-5 become bestsellers and my consideration for being a bestseller is when a book sells more than 50 thousand copies. Currently, books which sell even 10 thousand copies are considered bestsellers. By doing this, publishers limit the efforts of an author.
How can people find out more about you?
First of all, I would like to thank people who connected with me via Facebook or Twitter. You were always my strength. I am always intending to write true stories, which happen around me and inspire me to write. You all mean a lot to me; I try my best to answer your messages and mails. You can connect with me via Facebook or Twitter, I am always available. 🙂
