Today, we’re delighted to welcome a very special guest to e-Books India. Her name is Marie Force and she is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling romance author. Read on to learn more about Marie through her responses to a series of questions we asked about her background, her stories and her most recent book entitled Desired After Dark.
Please tell us about you. Where are you from? What is your professional background and how did you become an author?
Hi there, thanks for having me! I’m from Rhode Island, which is the smallest of the US states, located in the north eastern corner of the country, just south of Boston. You may have heard of my hometown of Newport, Rhode Island, which is a popular sailing and tourist destination. I studied journalism in college, was a newspaper reporter for a couple of years before working in corporate communications for about twenty years. The fiction writing was always something I was going to do “someday.” I started writing my first book, Treading Water, in bits and pieces, in 2003 and finished it in 2005. I’ve been writing books ever since.
What types of books do you write?
I write contemporary romance, romantic suspense and erotic romance.
Could you please tell us about your most recent book, its overall plot, and the main characters in it?
Desire After Dark is my most recent release. It’s book 15 in my popular Gansett Island Series. Below is the blurb:
Tobias “Slim” Jackson has the perfect life as a pilot on Gansett Island in the summer and in Florida in the winter. He’s happiest when he’s in the air, or at least that was the case before last summer when he met Erin Barton, Gansett Island’s newest lighthouse keeper. Now he can’t seem to find his usual enthusiasm for flying, winter in the sunny South or anything that doesn’t include her.
Erin has been stuck on pause since she lost her twin brother. She’ll tell you herself that her life has been a hot mess since Toby died. After dropping out of law school, she’s flitted from one pointless job to another, existing rather than truly living. Then she comes to Gansett Island to take over as the new lighthouse keeper and meets Slim, who happens to share her beloved brother’s first name. That small coincidence is enough to convince Erin that she needs to spend more time with the dashing pilot—except for the fact that he’s spending the winter more than a thousand miles from her.
Now Slim’s come home to Gansett for the holidays and to hopefully pick up where he left off with Erin. He’s got twelve days before he’s due back in Florida to finish out the remainder of his winter obligations. A lot can happen in twelve days, but will it be enough to convince Erin that it’s time to start truly living again? Read Slim and Erin’s story and catch up with the rest of the Gansett Island cast in Desire After Dark!
Are you working on any other books(s)? If so, can you please tell us what we can expect to see from you in the future?
I’m always working on new books. Currently, I’m writing three other series in addition to Gansett—the Fatal Series, the Butler Vermont Series and the Quantum Series, written as M.S. Force. I go from one to the other, adding new books to each series every year. I also have a couple of single title romances (not part of a series) that I’d like to write if time allows. My next release is Fatal Identity, book 10 in the Fatal Series, out on July 26.
Can you please tell us about your approach to writing? For example, do you follow structures and writing rules? Or do you write in a free flow way? Do you have any particular time of the day you like to write? Or any specific environment you prefer to sit down and write in?
I’m what we call a “seat of the pants” writer. I don’t plan anything in advance. I don’t do outlines or notes or any other kind of planning beyond the basic premise of the story going into it. I let the story unfold organically. I write straight through from the beginning, going back to edit as I write so I end up with a fairly clean first draft that I then tweak until I’m happy with it. I write mostly in the morning and early afternoon, and I tend to write best in bed. 🙂
Do you have any favourite authors? If so, who are they and what do you like about their work?
Christina Lauren is my favourite romance author. I love “their” books. I say “their” because Christina Lauren is the name used by two amazing women who write the funniest, sexiest books out there. I love them! I also love my friend Lauren Blakely’s books and many other romance authors have a fan in me.
What other things do you like to get up to when you’re not writing?
I love to spend time with my family and friends, at the beach, on the boat, anything having to do with the water. I’ve discovered a recent new interest in decorating. Last summer, I redecorated my father’s boat and this year, I’m outfitting a beach house that my husband and I bought to use as a summer rental. I’ve had SO much fun with that! My kids, who are almost 21 and 18, are my favourite people to hang out with, but these days I need to make an appointment to get some time with them! I also spend a lot of time with my dad, who lives nearby.
