He’s a successful accountant by profession who has now also become a published author. The book he has written is called The 3 U-Turns of My Life. His name is Jitendra Gianchandani, and we carried out an exclusive interview with him to find more about the man himself, about his book and his writing plans for the future. Read on to find out Jitendra had to say through a most humorous exchange!
Hi Jitendra and welcome to e-Books India! We’re very excited to have you join us for this interview. Can you please tell us about you? Where do you come from? What work do you do, and how did you become an author?
I will try to brief you about me, though even after sixteen years of marriage, my wife says she doesn’t understand anything about me. 🙂
I am originally from Kutch in Gujarat, famous for being the world’s last refuge of the Indian wild ass. It even has the famous Indian Wild Ass Sanctuary now.
At present, I am practicing under the name of JCA Consulting Group in Dubai which was established in 2001. We have offices in Dubai, Jebel Ali Free Zone, Sharjah and Hamriyah Free zone. We are planning to have an office on…Mars! I live in Dubai with fifty domestic staffs, including, of course, my pets.
As far as becoming an author is concerned, I became one by chance. Yes, I was an avid reader of comics and pocket books during my school days, but even thinking of writing a novel was just like… luck, by chance.
You’ve recently published your debut novel entitled The 3 U-Turns of My Life, a romantic fiction story. Can you please tell us what the story is about?
Although largely it falls under the romance genre, and is a love story, I personally think it’s much more than that. And as the catch line is ‘love-race-destiny’, it’s as much a story of the historic competition CA vs MBA as an introvert guy v/s extrovert guy, and who will eventually win life’s race.
It involves mention and inspiration from quite a few real life events, such as the Gujarat earthquake in 2001, the financial crisis of 2008, the recent corruption scams that have erupted in India, including the Lavasa hill city scam of Maharashtra and the 2G spectrum, and media’s habit of sensationalizing issues and creating nicknames such Bad Boy for Salman Khan, King Khan to Shah Rukh Khan, Mr Perfectionist to Aamir Khan, and Corporate Lobbyist for Nira Radia.
What inspired you to write The 3 U-Turns of My Life?
Chetan Bhagat, Dan Brown and…Emraan Hashmi!
What other things inspire your fiction writing?
Fiction world is more beautiful than the real world. I think that is the reason we love movies. We always struggle in our daily life and notice that strong people are dominating (except husbands at home) and pushing the weak people. There is absolutely no justice and life is unfair to everyone in some way. So fiction world helps readers forget their real world problems and transports them to a happier world. And I being a fiction writer, technically the God of my world, satisfy them by beating the evil and making sure justice prevails (though wives always win).
Do you have any other book(s) in the pipeline? If so, can you please give us an idea of what you’re working on?
My next book is, The Three Wise Monkeys, and it’s about three honest (hence impractical) CAs with IQ the size of peas. They grapple with a Swiss bank, and wealthy clients trying to save their asses in tax evasion, income tax raids, being pursued by police, goons and guns. The turmoil sends them running for life, and how all that chaos produces humour and myriad other emotions. The book should be released by the end of this year.
From your experiences of getting The 3 U-Turns of My Life published, can you please share 3 pieces of advice with budding authors who would like to do the same?
1. Have a nice pair of boxer shorts
2. Eat Chyawanprash (even expired one year ago is fine)
3. Keep beer bottles ready in the refrigerator.
Just kidding! No matter how huge the task of writing and getting published looks like (it actually is), my advice is to read, write and have coffee.
How can people find out more about you?
They can write to me through my website: www.authorjitendra.com, or follow me on Facebook and Twitter.
