Today we’re very happy to introduce a special guest to e-Books India. Her name is Moitrayee Bhaduri and we carried out an interview with her. Moitrayee is author of a book entitled The Sinister Silence. Read to learn more about Moitrayee and her work.
Hello Moitrayee and welcome to e-Books India! We’re thrilled to have you join us for this interview. Can you please start off by telling us about you? Where are you from? What is your professional background and how did you become an author?
Thank you so much! I am delighted to be here too.
I am a passionate writer who loves good books, soulful music, and great coffee! I currently reside in Mumbai but Kolkata is my hometown. I graduated in History from Loreto College, and completed my M.A at Jadavpur University.
I started my career as a content writer with the Apeejay Group. In my professional life, I have explored different kinds of writing and people-management roles. While working with a reputed IT company few years back, I decided to focus on writing my first book.
Can you please tell us about your book The Sinister Silence, its overall plot and the key characters in it?
The Sinister Silence is a fast-paced murder mystery based on the IT industry. The story unfolds on a rainy evening at Zarine Software, a leading IT organization in Mumbai. Panic strikes when Saahil, a bright project manager is brutally attacked. Before the police investigations can begin, another Zarine employee is targeted. Worried that the case might be dismissed as a suicide-attempt, Saahil’s family requests ex-super cop-turned private detective Mili Ray to step in. Mili dives into the case along with her associates – Advocate Gatha and ex-army officer Anubhav. Multiple people make it to the ‘Key Suspects’ list –a jealous colleague, an ex-friend, an IT Kingpin, and a sly family member, among others. The case turns knottier when more murders are committed and Mili realizes that she is being stalked. To sum up, this book is an action-packed suspense thriller.
Are you working on any other books(s)? If so, can you please tell us what we can expect to see from you in the future?
Currently, I am working on Mili Ray’s second case, tentatively titled ‘The Musical Murders’. I plan to write crime fiction for a while. However, I enjoy intense love stories too and would like to explore that genre sometime.
Can you please tell us about your approach to writing? For example, do you follow structures and writing rules? Or do you write in a free flow way? Do you have any particular time of the day you like to write? Or any specific environment you prefer to sit down and write?
My first draft is always free flowing. There is a plot outline of course but that doesn’t restrict me. I write down everything that is on my mind. However, when I edit my first draft, I am more disciplined. A lot of plot reorganizing, scene rewriting, and more happen in the edit phase.
I enjoy writing the most during the day. However, when you have a day-job, that is not feasible. So late evenings are good too. I like writing at home, preferably by the window or at the balcony. In Mumbai, balcony is a luxury – so the window view works very well. 🙂
What others things do you like to do when you’re not writing?
I love reading, singing, and listening to music. I like watching cricket too.
From your experiences, could you please share 2-3 top tips to help beginner authors who want to publish a novel?
1. Discipline yourself and write every day – If you have a dream, have the courage to follow it. Procrastination is a writer’s biggest enemy and often we try to hide it in the garb of ‘writer’s block’. Just stay focused, and write that book!
2. Read a lot – The more you read, the better you write.
3. Observe people, make friends, laugh a lot – You will be surprised how many stories you can get simply by observing people!
