Who better to take writing advice from than a bestselling author and screenwriter? As well as script writing for the likes of Holby City, Anna McPartlin has a string of celebrated novels under her belt. Her latest book, The Last Days of Rabbit Hayes, which has already been shortlisted for an Irish Book Award, is now available as an eBook and will be published in paperback in January. Here, Anna shares five simple but very effective writing tips.
1. Find your voice, it’s the thing that differentiates you from everyone else and the only way to find it is to write, write, write…
2. If in doubt delete.
3. Story comes from character so know your characters inside and out.
4. If you are having a bad day close your computer go outside and do something you wouldn’t normally do.
5. We have a best time to write, it could be first thing in the morning or through the night. Nine to five isn’t for everyone. Find the time that best works for you.
