Welcome to the second Novelicious Book Club, fellow book nerds! A fun, friendly and very positive place to geek out over brilliant reads, the club is a monthly, digital get together, where we hope you’ll discover awesome new books and authors and make lots of bookish friends along the way.
For us, there’s nothing better than having a group of pals reading the same book at the same time. You can lament over sudden plot twists and subsequent 4am reading sessions on a work night, swoon and whoop together when the hero finally kisses the heroine and have lively, thoughtful discussions once you’ve turned the last page.
We had so much fun reading and discussing The One Plus One by Jojo Moyes with you last month (reading is just that much better when you do it with pals) and we can’t wait to do it all over again.
In April, we’ll be reading … *drumroll*
The Accident by C. L. Taylor!
Published today, this book has been on our radar for a while now, with folks who have already read the book promising a fabulously gripping psychological thriller that will have you hooked from the very first page. Having already had a sneaky peek at the first couple of pages (don’t judge us, it’s an addiction), we can confirm this is truth indeed.
Here’s what it’s all about:
A gripping psychological thriller about the deadly secrets your children can keep …
Sue Jackson has the perfect family but when her teenage daughter Charlotte deliberately steps in front of a bus and ends up in a coma she is forced to face a very dark reality.
Retracing her daughter’s steps she finds a horrifying entry in Charlotte’s diary and is forced to head deep into Charlotte’s private world. In her hunt for evidence, Sue begins to mistrust everyone close to her daughter and she’s forced to look further, into the depths of her own past.
Sue will do anything to protect her daughter. But what if she is the reason that Charlotte is in danger?
Admit it. You can’t wait to get your hands on this, can you? Why did Charlotte step in front of the bus? What was the horrifying diary entry? And what exactly is in the depths of Sue's dark past? So many questions!
Once you’ve got your copy, we’d love you to share their thoughts (no spoilers!) on the book here in the comments, on social media or on your own blog with the #NoveliciousBookClub hashtag while you read. Whether it’s by discussing the cover in a video, instagramming pictures of yourselves reading the book in a onesie, tweeting character analyses, creating pretty images featuring favourite quotes or tweeting 'Oh no she didn't!' at 4am because you need to share your plot twist shock with someone who knows what you're going through, the idea is to get creative and have fun!
Once club members have finished the book, you will be able to send a brief 100 word review to kerry@writingtipsoasis.com for potential inclusion in a preliminary book discussion – to be published here on Novelicious on Wednesday 21 May. We’ll also be sharing some of the most creative participation from the month (your tweets, images and videos) and a series of discussion questions ahead of an hour-long #NoveliciousBookClub chat (no spoilers please) on Twitter and Facebook at 8pm that evening.
Put the kids to bed, pour yourself a glass of wine and join us for some lively discussion and fun and games. There will be virtual nibbles, of course, and prizes!
Will you be joining in this month? What do you think of the book pick? Let us know in the comments!
