It’s officially summer. The kids are off school and in need of entertainment. It’s no great surprise then that the majority of films out this August are aimed squarely at them (and their parents’ wallets).Wednesday 7th
First up in the adaptations pile is Percy Jackson’s latest adventure at sea based on the book Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan. In Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, the son of Poseidon embarks on a quest with his friends to find the Golden Fleece and stop evil taking over – as you do. Logan Lerman (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) returns as Percy. Having seen how incredible he was in Wallflower, it will be interesting to see if this film works in his favour or not.

The Lone Ranger has had so many guises over the years it was surely only a matter of time before this film got made. This time Johnny Depp is on hand to play Toto with Armie Hammer as the Lone Ranger. The film has been panned by many but those who love it say it is just great fun. Hi ho Silver!

Adapted from the graphic novels by Mark Millar, Kick-Ass 2 sees the return of Hit-Girl (Chloë Moretz), the foul-mouthed youngster out to defeat the bad guys, along with Kick-Ass. This time around, there are new faces too but don’t expect to see co-star Jim Carrey promoting the film. He’s bowed out after Sandy Hook, claiming that he can no longer condone such violence in film.

Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones is the first of a long line of books by Cassandra Clare that have proven immensely popular and see no signs of slowing down. The new YA to watch may be about to take over, with stars Jamie Campbell Bower and Lily Collins in the lead roles. There are many more books to adapt if this proves popular, so stay tuned!
If none of that grabs you, Jurassic Park is getting a 3D release or you could always check out One Direction’s new film. I’m not saying you should… just that you could.
Happy watching!
