My Bedside Table – Kirsty from Love of a Good Book

It has been said that all anyone needs to know about a person’s life at any one moment – struggles, aspirations, obsessions – can be gleaned from the pile of books on their bedside table. In this new weekly series, we’ll be rooting around our favourite book bloggers' nightstands to get to know them better.

This week, it’s the lovely Kirsty of Love of a Good Book. Based in the West Midlands, Kirsty has always dreamed of owning a library like the one from Walt Disney’s Beauty and the Beast so starting a book blog seemed like a pretty logical move. Over to you, Kirsty.

Kirsty's Bedside Table
I tend to read everywhere. I'm lucky to be one of those people who can read whilst travelling; I like the chance to escape from the strange people that can be found on public transport (myself included).

But most of all I love reading on my bed, it's my favourite place to read.

When I have a day off from work, I can often be found lying on my bed with my head in a book. It's that magical moment when I head off to bed, switch my reading light on and snuggle under the duvet with my latest read, which I enjoy the most.

Next to my bed is what you could call my reading corner. There's my bedside table and two bookcases, all within easy reach of a roll and a stretch. In my room I have a bookcase, which holds some of my signed and favourite books. Then I have my TBR (to be read) bookcase, the ones that are still waiting to be devoured.

Within one of my bookcases, there is also a shelf dedicated to notebooks, post it notes and my diary. It's the only way to keep on track of interviews, guest posts and blog tours.

Kirsty Love of a Good BookThen you come to my bedside cabinet, where you will always find my current read (this week it's Wolf Bride by Elizabeth Moss) alongside:
  • My phone charger
  • A trinket box engraved with 'Kirsty, You've got a friend in me. Rachel xxx' (a gift from a friend)
  • A photograph of my beautiful niece
  • A pink travel clock
  • A tube of Carmex
  • And my iPad
I love this part of my room; it's my haven, my place to escape and also where I put a lot of my favourite things. The bookcases are a new addition. After filling up the four downstairs, I re-arranged my space so that I could bring some of my favourites upstairs.

It's such a lovely feeling looking at some of the books that have made me laugh, cry and even sigh. I used to keep a couple of special books on my bedside table, but the truth is, there are so many special books now. That's why I love having my bookcases, it's a chance to keep more than a couple close by. A book for every mood, day and memory.

When I go to sleep at night, I look at my books, remembering the hopes and dreams, love and lessons that are contained within every page, and I smile because every book symbolises a dream come true, an authors chance to share their imagination with you!

Thanks, Kirsty!
