All this week we'll be taking you behind the scenes at Novelicious with guest posts from Team Novelicious. It's time to hear we hear from our fantastic reviewer Kelly.
I became a reviewer in 2013 shortly after my father passed away. I found myself wanting and needing words in my life after he had gone. I realised that to live life in your own way is the most important lesson to be learnt from the loss of a loved one, so I dived right in and I applied for the position of reviewer. When I was accepted as part of the team it really did change my life. I felt part of something special, something that we all shared a passion for and always will, and most importantly I felt loved. They are a fantastic bunch of book lovers, writers and just simply fab people! I feel very privileged to be a part of the Novelicious world. I love reading all the wonderful tales of love, loss and hope and I have enjoyed every minute spent during the last year lost in a world of words. I have had a year of looking forward to the knock on the door and the local postie standing there holding the promise of a new adventure wrapped in a bubble-wrap envelope. Sometimes I leave it to one side, savouring the moment, until I tear off the seal and pull out the next book in line for my eyes. I think the most fantastic thing about it all is the chance of escapism, to enter an unknown world and meet new and interesting characters. Just me, my pooch, a hot cuppa and most importantly, a shiny new book…
I bought an old battered desk from ebay and a chair that I can sleep in (when nobody is looking) and I sit there some days reading and writing and getting totally lost. It sometimes gets covered in the normal daily rubbish, bank statements, school newsletters that inform me that my child may get nits, and all the other mundane day to day stuff. But I simply brush it to one side and get on with the important stuff.
Since joining the team I have taken the plunge to dust off my MA dissertation and transform it into a novel, something I have previously avoided because of a fear of failure. With the Novelicious team behind me I fear nothing…
