Hold on to your hats, book nerds, for a new novel by Fifty Shades of Grey author E.L. James is to be released this week (18 June). This book isn't the start of a new series, but the story from the perspective of Mr. Grey himself. It is to be called simply, Grey. As E.L. James says: "As anyone who has ever been in a relationship knows, there are two sides to every story."
So, with this in mind, we thought we'd give you five books with dual perspectives. Sometimes the dual perspectives are in the same book and sometimes in separate novels, just like Grey.
1. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell – This is a dual perspective novel about teenagers Eleanor and Park. Set in 1980s America, with a soundtrack of Joy Division and The Smiths and against a backdrop of X-Men comics, the two teenagers develop their friendship and love.
2. Come Together by Emlyn Rees and Josie Lloyd – The first novel written by writing partners, and now husband and wife, Come Together was published in 1999. The voice of Jack Rossiter: 27, single, living with his best mate, Matt, is written by Emlyn. And the voice of Amy, a woman who has decided this is the year when she'll find that special someone, is told by Josie. Come Again is the sequel but, intriguingly, there are more than two perspectives in that novel.
3. Something Borrowed and the sequel Something Blue by Emily Giffin – The two stories of childhood best friends, Rachel and Darcy, are told in two novels. Rachel, four months older than Darcy, has always played by the rules and worked hard. And Darcy always steals the limelight. In Something Borrowed we see their relationship from Rachel's perspective. Rachel, on the eve of her 30th birthday, has a fling which changes everything. In Something Blue Darcy finds herself completely alone. So she goes to London to stay with high school friend, Ethan.
4. Love From Both Sides by Nick Spalding – Love from Both Sides is the first novel in a series of four. In this first one, we are introduced to Jamie Newman, a single guy, who is not finding single life fun. Laura McIntyre isn't either. Then they bump into each other and their luck has finally changed. Although, it could be just the start of their problems …5. The Time Traveler's Wife – A dual perspective love story about a man who jumps through time. The perspectives jump with him and we learn about a young woman called Clare Abshire, who bumps into a man called Henry DeTamble. Confusingly, she knows him from her childhood. But he doesn't know her. Because he hasn't travelled back in time to meet her yet …
