Five Delightful Desk Lamps

By Novelicious

When planning your perfect writing space, don't forget the lighting. Not only is a good desk lamp a brilliant opportunity to accessorise your furniture, it's important for keeping headaches at bay, avoiding eye strain, and increasing your comfort (and efficiency) during long sessions at the keyboard. The ideal desk lamp has an adjustable head and light shade so that you can angle the light onto your work. However, any kind of low level lighting is better than just relying on your overhead ceiling light. Here are five lamps which combine good looks with functionality.

Anglepoise Lamp
1. The Anglepoise lamp is a bona fide design classic. The original version has been reissued to celebrate its 75th birthday, and is available in black, white or red (my personal favourite). The lamp costs £148.80 from Angelpoise.

Franco Lamp
2. For a modern twist on the Anglepoise-style, try the Franco wooden desk lamp from Habitat. It has an adjustable beech wood arm and a fabric shade and costs £40.

Paris Lamp
3. This is more of a table lamp than a desk lamp (and I’m not sure how much work-appropriate light a non-adjustable, black-shaded lamp will give off), but it’s very nice, and would certainly add architecural elegance to your office area. The Eiffel Tower lamp is
£95 from Graham and Green.

Bulb Lamp
4. This quirky light bulb shaped lamp by John Lewis would look particularly good in a minimalist or industrial-chic interior. The metal at the base of the lamp is brushed chrome and it has a red fabric cable. The lamp is priced £45 and is available from John Lewis.

Pimlico Lamp
5. This is one of the prettiest-but-still-functional desk lamps I've seen. It has a gorgeous fluted glass shade and the nickel finish base is sleek and simple. The on-off switch is located on the power cable and it's priced £100. Available from Cox & Cox.
