After having partnered up with Smashwords last year to distribute e-Book titles to the Indian market, Flipkart, India’s largest online retailer, has now formed a coalition with Publish on Demand Global (PODG). Flipkart will distribute PODG’s digital content, making it available on any e-reader available on Android, Apple and Windows 8 devices.
This certainly does look like a win-win situation for both companies. As the e-Books market continues to develop in India, more titles will help consolidate Flipkart’s position as India’s premier site to purchase and download e-Books. For PODG, partnering with ‘India’s Amazon’ will help the company to continue making inroads into the Asian markets including India and China. In India in particular, PODG already distributes e-Books to Study eBuddy, the online educational eBookstore and to the Rockstand platform, the combined e-Book reading app and e-Book store.
In the official PRWeb (19/03/14) press release about the announcement, Ms. Kait Neese, who is the Managing Director of PODG had the following to say, “It has been three weeks since we left Delhi and our books are already live on Flipkart.com which is stellar. Deals never happened this fast in China. With a market size of 1.2 billion and a literacy rate of 74% and growing India could very well be the next China for the US publishing industry.”
