Gabrielle Zevin’s Top Five Writing Tips

By Novelicious

Gabrielle Zevin 1. Research solves writing problems. If you are having trouble figuring out a certain scene or narrative beat, it may be because you don’t know enough yet.

2. Write before you start writing. The best way I’ve found to create well-delineated characters and settings is to describe them in advance of beginning to write. Your scenes will end up less expositional that way.

3. Inspiration is everywhere. When you come across something interesting, write it down.

4. A book is more than just one idea. A synopsis of a novel needs only to convey the main idea of a story, but a good novel consists of many ideas.

5. Invest in a quality desk chair. You’re going to be sitting in it a long time. Good posture is important for writing books and also, life in general.

Gabrielle’s latest novel, The Collected Works of A.J. Fikry, is available to buy now.
