Jessie Keane's long-suffering heroine Annie Carter is back in her latest crime novel, Ruthless, published recently by Pan. Today Jessie's given us her top five writing tips.
Don’t be too
hyper-critical of your writing – meaning, don’t write and rewrite and rewrite
again before you’ve even told the story, just get it down on paper.
Don’t worry about what
your family will think of what you’ve written.
Enjoy it. If you do, it
will show in the story.
Feel it. In an emotional
scene, you should feel the emotion yourself; convey that to your reader. Make
them feel your character’s pain or elation.
Persist. I’ve left this
until last, but it’s probably the most important tip of all. Just keep going.
And good luck!
