REVIEWED BY DEBS CARR
Laura McGregor, an analyst at the Chiltern Bank, is nervously waiting to see which of her colleagues are to be redundancy casualties. She is delighted to discover that not only has she escaped being handed her P45, but also that she is being sent to work with financial guru, Will Barton whose reputation both in New York and the UK is second to none. Whilst waiting in an office before meeting Will for the first time, she comes across Alex Hodder and realizes that he is the same journalist whose exposé nearly ruined the investment bank where her boyfriend, Tom works as a trader.
Laura is concerned that she and Tom have not been seeing each other nearly as much as a couple should and decides to fix things between them once and for all. Unfortunately, her sister, Mel arrives at her flat and pleads for Laura to let her stay. Laura can’t think of anything worse than having her untidy, unemployed, laid-back sister living with her, but when it transpires that Mel is in trouble with several shady characters, she agrees to let her stay.
Her boss, Will insists that despite her antagonistic feelings towards Alex and his journalistic skills, she must go out with him to be interviewed for SunSpot, the new fund their department are preparing to launch. Laura is determined to focus only on discussing SunSpot and is wary about divulging anything else to Alex, as she is concerned he will dig for any information he can use against either the Chiltern Bank or Will. Laura can’t help being angry with Alex and they argue, however, at the end of their evening they kiss and she is shocked at the intensity of her reaction to him.
She makes a discovery at work that together with Tom’s admission and her sister’s problems sees her life bouncing from one drama to another, and for some reason Alex Hodder always seems to be there. Why can’t she get away from him? How is she ever going to sort out her relationship problems with Tom, especially when he’s so focused on his work, and what has Will been up to? Then, just when matters couldn’t seem any worse, Mel does something so dreadful that Laura knows it will culminate in her life changing forever.
I love Allie Spencer’s books. Her characters are fun to read and her heroes are gorgeous and very appealing. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and felt every emotion whilst reading it. In fact I laughed so much at one part that I had tears running down my face, but I can’t divulge that bit, you’ll have to read it for yourself.
A well-deserved 9/10
