Have you ever been so inspired by an author’s work that you wish you could tell them exactly how much they have impacted your life? In this series, Literary Love Letters, we do just that – share open love letters to inspiring authors. Today, Just the Way You Are author Lynsey James writes to Miranda Dickinson.
Every once in a while, you find an author whose books you can lose yourself in. For me, that author is you. It doesn’t matter which of your books I read – be it When I Fall in Love, Fairytale of New York or, my personal favourite, It Started With a Kiss – I completely forget the world around me and immerse myself in the one you’ve created.
You create characters to fall in love with (my favourite will always be Ed Steinmann) and heroines who shine even in the most adverse situations. All of them – Rosie, Elsie, Bea, Romily, Hari and Nell – bring little slices of sunshine into my life. When I sat down to write Just the Way You Are, I knew I wanted to create characters who have as much of an impact on my readers as yours do on me. The positive messages in your books, especially reaching for your dreams, inspired me to do just that. Spurred on by them and your advice to ‘Write Foxy’ I wrote the story that was in my heart and soon it’ll be out there for others to take into theirs.
I’ll always carry your lovely stories with me, it’s impossible not to. Thank you for bringing such beautiful books into my life, for teaching me what ‘Write Foxy’ means and for creating the wonderful book boyfriend that is Ed Steinmann. Thanks,
Lynsey x
