March for me is all about one adaptation – The Hunger Games. The first book in the fantastic young adult trilogy, written by Suzanne Collins, hits cinemas on the 23rd starring Jennifer Lawrence as heroine Katniss Everdeen and with a supporting cast including Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci, Elizabeth Banks, Donald Sutherland and Josh Hutcherson. But The Hunger Games is not alone this month as there are numerous other adaptations hitting the big screen.

The book, published in 1885 and written by French novelist Guy de Maupassant takes a look at the delightfully naughty side of 19th century France. Robert Pattinson takes time out of being a vampire to play Georges Duroy, a man who charms and sleeps his way up the social ladder. Also starring Christina Ricci and Kristin Scott Thomas, the film has gorgeous costumes and a seductive plot.

Author Edgar Rice Burroughs is perhaps better known for creating Tarzan. However, he was also a massive sci-fan and created the John Carter books on which the film is based. The film sees John Carter on Mars meeting aliens and creatures and being forced to fight for his freedom. John Carter stars Taylor Kitsch and Willem Dafoe.
The book, written by Paul Torday, is about a far-fetched idea to introduce not just salmon but salmon fishing into the Yemen, where the climate is unlikely to support the fish. The book, written in a mixture of memos, letters, diary entries and emails is a delight and the film appears to have gone for a similar tone. Salmon Fishing in the Yemen stars Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt.
Mirror Mirror: The Untold Adventures of Snow White
Starring Julia Roberts as the Queen and Lily Collins as Snow White, this looks to be the sillier of the two Snow White Adaptations hitting cinemas in 2012, but oh what fun it could be. In this adaptation, Snow White is taught to fight by the seven dwarves and fights to win the heart of Prince Andrew (Armie Hammer).
Based on the true story of Benjamin Mee, We Bought a Zoo looks at what happens when a man decides that there are too many sad memories where he lives after the death of his wife and takes his children to greener pastures. But he hadn't planned on buying a house that just happened to back onto a zoo. The film stars Matt Damon as Mee and Scarlett Johansson.
In Darkness is a polish adaptation of a horrifying stories of people living in the sewers to escape persecution during the holocaust. The film was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at last month's Oscars®.
In a dystopian future, Katniss Everdeen has learned to survive by any means necessary. But the people of Panem are not left alone for long and each year two children from each of the nation's 12 districts are forced to take part in a fight to the death called The Hunger Games. When Katniss's little sister Prim is chosen, she nominates to go in her place. This is the first in a trilogy written by Suzanne Collins and has the potential to have two massive sequels.
