Adaptations are thin on the ground this May – but there are still a fantastic collection of films to check out with romance, hormones, comedy and drama. But make sure you leave room for some pie…

The Lucky One is the latest in a long line of Nicholas Sparks adaptations to hit the big screen. The film stars High School Musical's Zac Efron all grown up as Logan Thibault and newcomer Taylor Schilling as Beth and is about a marine who goes in search of a mystery woman – a woman who is in the photo he believes kept him alive at war. The two start a passionate love affair but with a meddling ex-husband watching Beth's every move, her young son growing attached to Logan and a kennel full of dogs to contend with, things are never simple. A powerful love story and well worth a watch!

It's a tenuous adaptation to say the least but What To Expect When You're Expecting (based on the pregnancy guide book) stars Cameron Diaz, Matthew Morrison and Dennis Quaid and follows couples – as you expect – going through pregnancy.
Also out in May are Men in Black 3 with Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Emma Thompson and Josh Brolin, Tim Burton's latest offering Dark Shadows with Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer and Helena Bonham Carter and American Pie: Reunion with, well, everyone you loved in the first American Pie film. It's a return to form for sure and if you liked the first film, you'll love this one. The Disney classic Beauty and the Beast also makes a return to selected cinemas across the country on 4 May in 3D.
