I don't have one particular place where I write, it could be the kitchen table, or in front of the fire at home, or in one of several spots around Jersey. This is a picture of me at a hillside park in St Brelade Bay. The park overlooks the beach where I've set the beach polo scene in A Jersey Kiss. If this view can't inspire me then at least there's always something to look at while I try to think what to write next.
The park has several tiers with a waterfall, fountain, and incredible views through the huge pine trees across the bay. I sit and write in various places here depending on how high up in the park I wish to go and the view I want to enjoy. I can lie down on the lawn, sit on one of the benches, or on a large tree stump in the middle of the park. I sometimes prefer to be high up where I can write while sitting on one of the terraced walls. Despite it being a favourite place for people to walk, or sunbathe, there’s always a quiet spot with an incredible view.
One of the best things about this park, apart from the view, is that I don’t have to walk far to reach the beachfront. I often arrange to meet friends for coffee after a few hours writing, or go for an ice cream, or on the rare occasion I have been known to take a quick dip in the sea – which in my case means going no deeper than my knees as the sea is far too cold for me to actually swim in it.
