Writer’s Block is the name of the garden hut where I work. It is a wonderful building, which began life as a garden shed that the previous owners of our house kept their junk in. My husband decided it should be expanded and have new windows and doors.

Now, painted a tasteful sage and with a sundeck added to the front, it is fitted with two oil heaters, a sofa, a chaise-longue, a turntable, bookshelves, a pink telephone and even a phrenologist’s head. And my desk and computer, obviously.

The hut is where I spend my days working. It’s my haven, and so peaceful, with such wonderful views from my desk over the valley, that I really can’t imagine working anywhere else. No-one has an office as wonderful as mine, not even Barack Obama!
