The book was a huge bestseller and its 2004 film adaptation is still one of the highest grossing romantic movies of all time, but now it seems The Notebook, the 1996 novel by Nicholas Sparks, is set to make its TV debut, too.
First reported by Entertainment Weekly, American television network The CW is teaming up with Nicholas Sparks to create the weekly series, which will follow Noah and Allie, memorably played by Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams in the movie, as their love grows and they set out to begin a life together “against the backdrop of the racial politics, economic inequities, and social mores of post-World War II of the late 1940s in North Carolina”.
CW president Mark Pedowitz said: "The Notebook is a very well-received book and motion picture. It is going to be set after World War II. At this point, the pilot is not done. I don't believe we're going to see the older couple – what they become – but again, things change and we're just now in the development stage."
What do you think? Will it be too hard to watch anyone other than Ryan Gosling play Noah Calhoun? Or does the book deserve a new spin?
