Enid Blyton’s Magic Faraway Tree – penned 60 years ago – is being adapted for film for the very first time.
The book, which tells of the adventures of three children who stumble upon an enormous magic tree in an enchanted forest, has been optioned by Sam Mendes' production company, Neal Street Productions.
The company has acquired film rights to all four books in the Faraway Tree series – The Enchanted Wood, The Magic Faraway Tree, The Folk of the Faraway Tree, and Up The Faraway Tree – for development from the Enid Blyton Estate, which was acquired by Hachette UK in 2012.
Marlene Johnson, head of the Enid Blyton Estate, told The Bookseller: "Enid Blyton was a passionate advocate of children's storytelling, and The Magic Faraway Tree is a fantastic example of her creative imagination. It's a much loved title, so we're very excited to announce we've signed an option agreement for development of The Magic Faraway Tree film with Neal Street Productions. Many generations have grown up with The Magic Faraway Tree and today's news provides a great chance to share the wonder of these stories through a new medium."Enid Blyton died in 1968 but is still one of the biggest selling children’s authors of all time. Her books have sold more than 500 million copies worldwide in 40 languages.
We can’t wait to see her magical stories come to life on the big screen!
