Lola Jaye  Lola Jaye is an inspiration for all wannabe novelists out there. It took her long time to get published but she never gave up! Lola kindly agreed to answer some questions for Novelicious…enjoy! 1 – Can you describe your average writing day? On weekends and days off from The Day Job, I’m not happy unless I’ve got in at least four hours of writing. Cola, jugs of water (but mostly Cola) and lots of nail biting is also on hand to help! I try to have lots of erm… breaks i.e. surfing the net and watching taped Sky Plus programes! 2 – I loved ‘Reaching For The Stars’ your self-help book. What inspired you to write it? I was asked to write a book about achieving your dreams and at first I thought hmmm… what should I write? Then it dawned on me – the truth! I wanted people to know that whoever you are, you CAN achieve your dreams – just be prepared to put in the hard graft, time, determination and effort and… you’ll have to read the book for the magic formula. No there is no magic formula really, but the above is a good place to start, just ask Barack Obama! 3 – What was your journey to getting published like? Long. Long. Long. Lots of rejection, doors in face etc. But I got there in the end and you can too.

4 – When you’re writing, do you use any celebrities or people you know as visual inspiration for the characters? If so, have you got any examples?! Good question. Yes I do visualise many of my characters. And even if I don’t, I already know whom I’d like to play them in the film version. For my first novel ‘By The Time You Read This…’ Mr. Will Smith plays Kevin’s character (I even told him so when I met him, but you’ll have to read my Blog for that info!). For my latest novel ‘While You Were Dreaming’; Halle Berry (when she had short hair) could play ‘Cara’ and Jessica Alba could easily be ‘Millie’. For Lena, an American actress called Rachel True is definitely a ringer for her. 5 – What is your favorite women’s fiction book of all time and why? That’s a difficult question… I have a list of books I luv for different reasons. They may have made me cry, laugh, really think … but usually it’s all of the above. The list includes; The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopoholic by Sophie Kinsella, Scenes of a Sistah by Lolita Files, Thirtynothing by Lisa Jewell, A Day Late, a Dollar Short by Terri McMillan and Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. All absolutely brilliant books. 6 – What is the biggest myth about being a novelist? That you’re pushing about JK Rowling type cash in a wheel barrow! 7 – What’s next for Lola Jaye? Living Laughing Just… being… And writing a new novel. Thanks so much, Lola! To visit Lola’s Website click here, and to buy her books click here!
