We had a lovely response to our post a few weeks ago where we highlighted some books that authors have been recommending on Twitter. It appears we're not the only ones who love reading about book recommendations from authors we follow. So we've decided it'll become a regular part of Novelicious Picks. After all, what could be nicer than more book purchases?
Here are five recommendations for the month.
1. The Sleeper by Emily Barr (@emily_barr) – As recommended by @inkstainsclaire. Claire McGowan, author of The Dead Ground, says The Sleeper had "fantastic twists and turns" and was "beautifully constructed". In this psychological thriller everyone thinks Lara is happy, but actually, she's bored. When she starts to commute from Cornwall to London she begins an illicit affair. Then one day she vanishes from the train.
2. The Story of You by Katy Regan (@katyreganwrites) – As recommended by both Rowan Coleman (@rowancoleman) and Julie Cohen (@julie_cohen). Rowan says The Story of You is "a lovely, perfect, joyous, emotional book". Julie describes it as "a beautifully written, wistful story". The novel is about Robyn, a psychiatric nurse, whose childhood was sunny and sparkling. Until, that is, the summer of 1997. The summer when her life exploded. The summer which made her the person she is today. When something happens in Robyn's present, it brings everything that happened back then to the surface. The question is, will she let it define her? Or will she let it go?
3. The Paying Guests by Sarah Waters – As recommended by @indiaknight. India, author of Mutton, says: "The Paying Guests by Sarah Waters is completely brilliant". Set in 1922 in London, Mrs Wray and her daughter are obliged to take in lodgers.4. Personal (Jack Reacher) by Lee Childs – As recommended by @StephenKing. Stephen, author of Mr Mercedes, tweeted that he "got an advance copy of the new Jack Reacher novel. It's the best one yet". Jack Reacher, a drifter, is needed. Someone has taken a long range shot of the French president. And only one man can find him.
5. The Killing Club by Paul Finch (@paulfinchauthor) – As recommended by @callytaylor. Cally, (C. L. Taylor) author of The Accident, says: "if you're a fan of crime novels I HUGELY recommend the the Heck novels – Stalkers, Sacrifice & The Killing Club". Heck is a maverick detective. In The Killing Club many people were found massacred by a gang two years ago. Now it has all started up again. And Heck knows they'll be coming for him too.
