With the amount of reality television shows flooding our screens based in various parts of the UK, focusing on the lives of the rich, the wannabe famous and the pretty people, it was no surprise that eventually a novel would surface in a similar form but was it as deliciously addictive…? ‘Chelsea Wives’ is set, as you can guess, in the upmarket area of London, surrounded by fast cars, sparkling diamonds and dashing bachelors with more notches in their bedposts than the Olympic torch had holes. Imogen, Calvary and Yasmin are our main characters, trophy wives, all equally successful and glamorous in their own right and all united by one thing…their failing marriages. The saying is “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned” and between them the wives are hell bent on revenge. But they find themselves part of a dangerous game, which could backfire on them all. ‘Chelsea Wives’ is an excellent debut novel; it is fast-paced and begins with a fantastic prologue that immediately draws you in. Anna-Lou’s descriptions of the wealth surrounding her characters are detailed and I felt like I was transported into their glamorous world every time I picked up the book. The frequent mention of designer names and labels was tedious at times, but it didn’t put me off the novel’s main storyline. Each of the main characters are easy to warm to because they are so different. My favourite though was Yasmin, she doesn’t seem to belong in the posh world of the other Chelsea wives but her fantastic optimistic personality means that she couldn’t care less. The more I read I loved Yasmin’s personal story. The book is laced with other interesting characters too, all well written and entertaining to read about and the domineering, handsome men aren’t too bad either 😉 The press release that accompanied my copy of the book stated that it was Desperate Housewives set in the glamorous borough of Chelsea and as a massive fan of the housewives I felt that was exactly what the book delivered. A quick-paced plot that has plenty of twists and turns, I found myself giggling at the mishaps and the tangles that the characters get into as their lives weave together. A definite winner for any holiday read! 7/10 CLICK HERE FOR MORE ABOUT CHELSEA WIVES
