For regular readers of my reviews, you will know how much of a fan I am of Lindsey Kelk. Her latest stand-alone novel, About a Girl, is still one of the funniest and most entertaining reads I’ve experienced this year, so when I discovered the shiny new delivery from the I Heart series waiting for me on the doorstep, I got very, very excited. I might have even done a little dance. Angela Clark is back. With a new surname, now happily married to the gorgeous Alex Reid and still not treating the designer items she owns with an ounce of the care they deserve. But she’s back, and is just as wonderfully funny and easy to love as ever. Christmas is on the horizon and Angela and Alex have barely had time to sit down together recently. They’re looking forward to a nice, calm Christmas spending some quality time with each other. But then she’s promoted. Oh, and single best friend and partner in crime Jenny Lopez decides she wants to have a baby…like, now. Not to mention, Angela’s parents suddenly decide they’re coming to New York for Christmas…and they’re staying with her. Brilliant, just brilliant. It seems the relaxed Christmas Angela had been hoping for just wasn’t meant to be. Angela and Jenny are one of my favourite double-acts and this book doesn’t disappoint – they are just as funny as ever. Angela is trying to figure out why Jenny suddenly wants to have a baby and, at the same time, realises that her life with Alex is moving a little bit faster than she’s comfortable with. Suddenly her future doesn’t seem like her future anymore – it’s here and it’s chasing her around Brooklyn. As they begin to prepare for Christmas, Angela is dealing with friends in need, married life and trying to keep her mother happy so, as you can imagine, a certain amount of calamity and chaos ensues, which provides page after page of giggles. All of the old characters we know and love are back including Angela’s best friend from England, Louisa, who we get to see a lot more of in this novel, which is lovely. Angela’s mother is just as funny as ever and provides regular laughs too. There is a lovely feeling of familiarity about both of these characters and Kelk’s storytelling, without it going stale. The combination of loveable characters, witty writing and wonderful storylines make her books fabulous every time. There are few novels that have as much sparkle and laughter as Lindsey Kelk’s. She is a naturally funny writer that manages to make me laugh within the first few pages of any book. This is the perfect Christmassy indulgence. 10/10 MORE ABOUT THIS BOOK Lindsey Kelk’s Website
